RALEIGH, N.C. -- If you thought the Stars' comeback Tuesday night was epic, then what they were able to pull off Thursday was one for the ages.
Riding a herculean performance from goaltender Scott Wedgewood, the Stars erased two separate one-goal deficits in the third period, survived overtime and came away with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena.

His 44-save effort set a franchise record for the most saves by a goalie making his debut for the franchise.
It gave the Stars their third straight win and a three-point lead over Vegas for the second wild card, though the Golden Knights are also playing Thursday. Regardless of how the Golden Knights fare in their game, the Stars will still have four games in hand.
Wedgewood was simply on another level in his Stars debut, facing 47 shots against one of the league's best teams and allowing only three. He was one save away from tying his career high for saves in a game (45), set ironically in his most recent game (and his last with the Coyotes) on March 19. He was also dazzling in overtime, denying multiple odd-man rushes, and again in the shootout, going 3-for-3.

Wedgewood's teammates did everything they could to make sure his performance didn't go to waste.
Roope Hintz scored twice in the third period to erase two separate one-goal deficits just minutes after the Hurricanes scored. No one's been hotter than No. 24, who now has six goals and seven points in his past four games.

As one sided as the game was, the Stars were the ones who opened the scoring when Jamie Benn's attempted pass caromed off Ian Cole's stick and past Hurricanes goalie Freddie Andersen.

Tyler Seguin scored the lone goal in the shootout for both teams, his coming in the first round.
