Dallas Stars Captain Jamie Benn Advances to the Semi-Finals in the EA SPORTS NHL 17 Cover Vote

The Dallas Stars announced today that captain Jamie Benn advanced to the Semi-Finals in the NHL® 17 Cover Vote, with the next round of voting beginning at 11 a.m. CT on Tuesday, May 3. Benn was selected by the National Hockey League and EA SPORTS™ NHL® to represent the Dallas Stars organization and Team Canada in the NHL® 17 Cover Vote.

Benn defeated Team Finland and Florida Panthers forward Aleksander Barkov in the Round One of the voting and will now face Team Russia and St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko. Along with going head-to-head this week in the Semi-Finals of the NHL® 17 Cover Vote, Benn and Tarasenko are facing off on the ice in the Second Round of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the series tied at 1-1 between their respective clubs.

Eight NHL players were been given the opportunity to appear on the cover of the world's best-selling hockey video game franchise. This year's edition of EA SPORTS NHL® 17 pays tribute to the World Cup of Hockey, with one player from each of the rosters being selected to participate. With the help of fan voting, eight NHL players will be narrowed down to one, with the winning player unveiled as the EA SPORTS NHL® 17 Cover Athlete at the 2016 NHL Awards™ in Las Vegas.

Beginning May 3, fans will be able to continue to cast their vote for Jamie Benn at There will be no cap to the number of votes, meaning fans can place votes for their favorite team/player as much as they want. Additionally, fans can also vote using #NHL17Benn on Twitter.

Benn, 26, leads the NHL in postseason scoring with 12 points (5-7=12) along with sharing third in assists (7) and ranking fourth in goals (5). Benn has points in seven of his eight games during the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs and recorded a career-long six-game postseason point streak (4-6=10) from April 14 - 24, which is tied with Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin (3-6=9) and St. Louis' Jaden Schwartz (3-4=7) for the longest point streak this postseason. The native of Victoria, B.C. finished the 2015-16 season with a career-high 89 points (41-48=89), including a career-high 41 goals and appearing in all 82 games. Benn ranked second in the league in points (89) and third in goals (41), recording the second-most goals in a single season since the team moved to Dallas, while matching the 11th-most in franchise history.

The forward joins Aleksander Barkov (Team Finland, Florida Panthers), Victor Hedman (Team Sweden, Tampa Bay Lightning), Connor McDavid (Team North America, Edmonton Oilers), Anze Kopitar (Team Europe, Los Angeles Kings), Joe Pavelski (Team USA, San Jose Sharks), Vladimir Tarasenko (Team Russia, St. Louis Blues) and Jakub Voracek (Team Czech Republic, Philadelphia Flyers) in representing their World Cup of Hockey team in the NHL® 17 Cover Vote.
