Dallas Stars Announce Spring Registration for Dallas Stars Junior Rookies Program

by Dallas Stars Staff / Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars announced today the opening of spring registration for the Dallas Stars Junior Rookies designed by Mike Modano, a youth hockey initiative for children ages 8-12 that consists of four 30-minute, Saturday on-ice sessions that provides the opportunity to learn the basics of hockey.

"The incredible success of our Little Rookies program for ages 4-8 inspired us to offer the same program for older children who have the desire to experience hockey for the first time," Dallas Stars Chief Operating Officer Jason Farris said. "There are over 1,400 children who enrolled in a skate or hockey program as a result of participating in the Little Rookies try hockey for free program. With the continued growth of the sport of hockey in North Texas and the Southwest region, the Dallas Stars organization wants to make certain that every child has the opportunity to lace up skates."

In the Junior Rookies first-ever session during the month of January at Dr Pepper StarCenters, 69.4% of participants decided to enroll in an additional hockey or skating program following the completion of the four-week class.

Each participant in the Junior Rookies program is outfitted with all necessary equipment and a souvenir jersey for them to keep. The Junior Rookies program launched in January 2016 at six Dr Pepper StarCenters across the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex including the locations in Euless, Farmers Branch, Frisco, McKinney, Richardson and Plano. Additional rinks offering the program across the region will be announced at a later date.

"Because of the Little Rookies program, we have seen tremendous growth in the number of players participating in our house leagues across the Metroplex," Dr Pepper StarCenters Vice President Damon Boettcher said. "We have seen a 40 percent growth in the total number of skaters participating in the Dallas Stars Metro Hockey League, our organization's youth recreational league. It's never too late to begin playing, and we look forward to expanding the base of hockey players across the Southwest Region through both our Little Rookies and Junior Rookies programs."
