The 31 NHL teams have realigned into four new divisions for the 2020-21 campaign, with each team playing a 56-game schedule and only facing teams within its division during the regular season. Dallas will play in the newly-aligned Central Division along with the Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators and Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Stars are scheduled to play 56 games this season, with 28 contests at home and 28 on the road. In an effort to minimize travel during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Stars schedule is exclusively made up with two-game series against the same opponent in the same city. The unique format also features a four-game set against Detroit from April 19-24, with the two teams playing in Dallas on April 19 and 20, and in Detroit on April 22 and 24.
