The Dallas Stars and the City of Farmers Branch announced today plans for renovations and improvements to the Dr Pepper StarCenter Farmers Branch. Upgrades to the 80,000-square-foot facility, which was originally constructed in 2004, are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.

"The improvements to the Dr Pepper StarCenter Farmers Branch are part of the continued commitment by the Stars organization to growing the game of hockey in the greater Southwest region," Dallas Stars Chief Operating Officer Jason Farris said. "We are grateful for our tremendous partners at the City of Farmers Branch and are confident that the enhancements to the facility will make it into an even greater community space."

The improvements will include upgrades to the exterior of the building, a refresh of the lobby and rink viewing areas, plus lighting and sound upgrades to both ice rinks. The Dr Pepper StarCenter Farmers Branch will also become home to the Dallas Stars Alumni Center on the main floor and the Texas Hockey History Center on the second floor.

"Farmers Branch is thrilled about the upcoming improvements," Farmers Branch City Manager Charles S. Cox said. "The Dr Pepper StarCenter in Farmers Branch has become a mainstay of our community during the past dozen years and will now become a real destination for hockey fans across Texas,"

Over the last few years, the StarCenter in Farmers Branch has become one of the most used facilities in the Dallas/Fort Worth region by the sled hockey community. Accordingly, the initial improvement already undertaken by the Stars and the City of Farmers Branch was the installation of sled hockey boards, a sled accessible player area and dedicated sled hockey equipment secured storage area to the east rink. With these modifications, the Dr Pepper StarCenter is now one of only a few sled accessible rinks in the U.S. with a bench area that is flush with the ice and clear plexiglass replacing the white boards to allow players to remain in their sleds and skate on and off the ice from the bench area.

On Saturday, Sept. 9, Dallas Stars players will participate in the annual Dallas Sled Hockey Charity Game at 3 p.m. at the Dr Pepper StarCenter Farmers Branch. Current Stars Dan Hamhuis Antoine Roussel  and Adam Cracknell , as well as Stars alum Bob Bassen, will participate in the charity contest with members of the Dallas/Fort Worth sled hockey community to raise funds for the Southwest Wheelchair Athletic Association.
