Cool rookies: Mavs' Doncic shows love back to Heiskanen

The rising NBA star wore the first-year defenseman's jersey before Monday's game against the Lakers

Game respects game.

Days after first-year Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen showed his support for Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic by wearing the forward's No. 77 jersey during pregame warmups, Doncic repaid the love Monday night by donning Heiskanen's No. 4 sweater before the Mavs' home game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

It could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. As teen sensations in the NHL and NBA, the 19-year-olds have become fast-rising superstars across the Dallas sports scene this season.

A first-round pick by the Stars in 2017, Heiskanen has quickly evolved into one of the best players in professional hockey, becoming just the second rookie in franchise history to be selected to the NHL All-Star Game in San Jose later this month. Entering Tuesday's game at St. Louis, Heiskanen ranks fourth on the team with nine goals and leads all Dallas defensemen with 19 points.

Doncic, a 2018 first-round pick by the Atlanta Hawks before being traded to the Mavericks on draft day, has been equally impressive. The native of Ljubljana, Slovenia has averaged 19.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, and is currently in the running to be named an NBA All-Star. Fans can vote for Doncic at
