The Stars will be making a couple of lineup changes for tonight’s tilt against the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center.
Forward Alex Chiasson is out due to illness, so Ryan Garbutt will come back into the lineup tonight.
Maxime Fortunus will come in on defense, taking the place of Sergei Gonchar, who is out with concussion-like symptoms after getting hit in the head with a puck in Saturday’s game in San Jose.
The Stars signed Fortunus, the captain of the Texas Stars, to a one-year NHL contract on Wednesday to provide some more depth on the blue line.
“I really liked the way Max played the last [preseason] game,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “I keep going back to the Oklahoma City game and how we played against a really good (Edmonton) lineup, and he was in the lineup against some of the best speed, skilled players in the game and played really well. He plays the game on his toes, he plays a quick game. His reads are good, in the little bit of time I saw him. He’ll be excited to be playing, and I’ll like having that right-handed shot back there, where you can move the puck quicker.”
Fortunus will be getting in an NHL game for the first time since the 2009-10 season, when he suited up in eight games for the Stars.
Kari Lehtonen is the expected starter in goal for the Stars, and Martin Jones is expected between the pipes for the Kings.
Quotable: Kings defenseman Drew Doughty on Jamie Benn
“I think he’s probably the one guy in the Western Conference who has my number more than anyone else. He’s tough to play against. He’s strong, he’s big, he has a long reach, has great hands, great shot, he’s fast. He really has every single little thing. He has grit to him, he hits hard. He’s a great player and I love playing against him, just because I know it’s going to be a tough challenge every night, and I look forward to playing against him, and I’ll try to keep him off the score sheet.” (lakingsinsider.com)
