Behind The Scenes: Game 14 - Washington

The division leading Stars head out on a four-game road swing against Carolina, Washington, Pittsburgh & Detroit on fire. They have earned 22 of 28 possible points so far this season and are looking to continue their rise in the standings. Get a glimpse of what went on behind the scenes as the team traveled to the East Coast.

10:07 pm - Ralph Strangis takes an opportunity to talk trash to Mike Ribeiro about their Words With Friends game as they wait to get on the bus.

10:02 pm - Equipment Manager Steve Sumner and his team still have a couple of hours of work to do after the game.

9:46 pm - “Things are going pretty good right now, and I think that’s because we’re playing a simple game and we’re playing the right way,” said Jamie Benn during his post-game interview, “Guys are having fun and we’re all buying in and we’re getting points on the road.”

9:45 pm - Kari Lehtonen undoes his pads. Kari finished the night with 30 saves on 32 shots, and more importantly, helped his team secure two points against a team that had yet to lose at home this season.

9:43 pm - Brenden Morrow, who set up the game winner on a gutsy play to win a battle after an offensive zone draw, unlaces his skates after the game.

9:42 pm - Trevor Daley is all smiles after the win. He finished the game a +2 with one assist.

9:37 pm - The celebration continues with the traditional up high...

9:37 pm - Dallas Goalies Kari Lehtonen and Andrew Raycroft celebrate their team moving into first place in the NHL with 22 points to start the year.

9:36 pm - Coach Glen Gulutzan hurries back to the room after the Stars 5-2 victory over the Washington Capitals.

9:23 pm - Sheldon Souray added to his +/- rating to finish the night +1, putting him, tied with Loui Eriksson, at +11 on the year.

9:21 pm - Robidas, Goligoski and Fistric watch as the Capitals attempt to apply pressure in the closing minutes of the 3rd period.

9:17 pm - Jake Dowell's sweater was ripped during the fight, so Steve Sumner works to quickly repair it while Dowell serves his penalty in just his shoulder pads.

9:15 pm - Once the Capitals gave up two goals in the span of a minute to put the game nearly out of reach, Jake Dowell answered the bell when Matt Hendricks tried to spark his team with a fight.

8:58 pm - Krystofer Barch and Adam Pardy watch the game from the pressbox.

8:55 pm - Kari Lehtonen leads the team back on the ice to start the 3rd period.

8:52 pm - Joe Nieuwendyk stops to speak with Director of Team Services, Jason Rademan, in the pressbox during the 2nd intermission.

8:42 pm - Daryl Reaugh begins his 2nd intermission interview with Stephane Robidas as his floor director points to camera, indicating he's live.

8:37 pm - Producer Cody Eastwood keeps a running list of standout moments that he can use when putting together the 'Game in 6 Minutes' segment for

8:34 pm - The Caps celebrate a goal from John Carlson, who tied the game at 2-2 late in the 2nd period.

8:25 pm - Stars Assistant GM Frank Provenzano stands with Danny O'Brien, a member of the Stars Pro Scouting department.

8:19 pm - Mike Ribeiro winning an offensive-zone draw, as seen from the vantage point of Ralph Strangis.

8:12 pm - Stars play-by-play man, Ralph Strangis, and color analyst, Daryl Reaugh, "bring it to the people" during a stoppage in play early in the 2nd period.

7:59 pm - As the first intermission draws to a close, Mark Fistric gets his head ready to get back after it against the lightning quick Capitals.

7:54 pm - Dennis Soetaert sharpens a skate during the first intermission.

7:50 pm - Kari Lehtonen comes out of the room halfway through the first intermission to talk with Mike Valley about his game. No complaints from Coach Valley who said to Kari, "Just go out there, smile and have fun."


7:40 pm - Sheldon Souray and Andrew Raycroft celebrate Michael Ryder's first goal of the night.

7:31 pm - Grossman flies over the boards on a shift change.

7:23 pm - At the end of the first TV timeout, Kari slips his mask back on before heading back to his crease.

7:20 pm - Associate Athletic Trainer Craig Lowry takes a look at Toby Petersen's right eye lid, which got scraped by stick that was lodged in his visor early in the 1st period.

7:11 pm - Sheldon Souray takes a seat next to Andrew Raycroft after his first shift of the night.

7:01 pm - Kari, as is his custom, steps outside of the room to get his mind in game mode.

6:54 pm - The mood shifts back in the room as the players get ready for gametime.

6:40 pm - Nicklas Grossman goes through his warm-up stretching ritual.

6:28 pm - Daryl "Razor" Reaugh sits on the Stars bench before his pre-game interview with Brenden Morrow.

6:26 pm - Mike Ribeiro gets ready to take the ice just behind the players bench.

6:21 pm - Long-time Kari Lehtonen fan, Benjamin, shows off his game-used Lehtonen glove from Atlanta.

6:16 pm - Radek Dvorak, Vernon Fiddler, Michael Ryder and Jake Dowell lace up their skates.

6:12 pm - Massage Therapist, Cleo Bates, stretches Loui Eriksson before warm-ups.


6:02 pm - Jamie Benn heads to the stationary bike after the donkeyball game.

5:58 pm - In the closing minutes of the "donkeyball" game, Jake Dowell shows some of the grit that helped him beat Vernon Fiddler a day earlier.

5:44 pm - Tom Wandell spends some time on the bike prior to the game.

5:43 pm - Trevor Daley and Coach Paul Jerrard discuss play in the defensive zone.

5:24 pm - Kari Lehtonen checks out a new cage for his helmet.

5:23 pm - Eric Nystrom, who came into the game with 3 goals in his last 4 games, trims the tape on his stick.

5:18 pm - A pair of skates sit on the dryer prior to warm-ups.

5:17 pm - A member of the Verizon Center crew drills into the ice to measure the depth of the sheet.

5:14 pm - Alex Goligoski prepares his sticks for the game.

4:46 pm - The team makes its way to the Verizon Center during rush hour.

4:34 pm - Prior to hopping on the team bus, Michael Ryder signs an autograph.

1:14 pm - ...nap time.

11:38 am - Adam Burish kicks his feet up on the way back to the hotel.

11:36 am - After a series of bad tweets from Phoenix, Daryl "Razor" Reaugh has "something to prove" and that's a good thing for those tuning in to tonight's broadcast.

11:25 am - When asked about the Stars penalty trouble in the early season, Coach Gulutzan responded, "We have a reputation and we're working hard to change that. We're taking it seriously, certainly I am, and we've talked to our group about it and we're trying to clean it up."

11:22 am - While waiting for Coach Gulutzan's press conference, Ralph Strangis talks with Ben Raby from the Captials Radio Network.

11:14 am - Kari Lehtonen re-tapes his stick before heading out to the team bus.

11:11 am - Stars head equipment manager, Steve Sumner, sews up Michael Ryder's glove.

11:04 am - Brenden Morrow takes a few questions from the press.

10:57 am - Michael Ryder looks at his glove which was in need of some repair.

10:54 am - Mike Ribeiro laughs at Vernon Fiddler, who credited Toby Petersen's new haircut for the increase in speed.

10:51 am - Coach Jerrard runs through Washington's powerplay scheme with Krystofer Barch and Tom Wandell.

10:47 am - Loui Eriksson and Jamie Benn plot further NHL domination.

10:39 am - Coach Gulutzan watches his defensemen bring the puck up the ice.
