He brings toughness and stalwart defending to the ice during hockey season, but now he is taking up a different sport for a worthy cause.
Dallas Star’s Trevor Daley will serve as the chair for the 7th annual Celebrity Golf Tournament, hosted by the Tackle Cancer Foundation on Tuesday, September 4. The event supports the Foundation’s mission to provide financial support to families who have children fighting pediatric cancer and to raise awareness and support initiatives towards finding a cure for the adult on-set blood cancer, multiple myeloma.
This cause hits home for the Stars defenseman because of a friend that was doing some grueling defending of his own. Comrade and former NHL linebacker, Elijah Alexander, established the Tackle Cancer Foundation in May of 2006 during his own struggle with cancer. When Alexander lost his fight with the disease, Daley decided to continue fighting.
Because of his friendship with the strong combatant, Daley developed a personal connection to the cause and has been involved with the foundation for several years. This year, the Stars player will continue his friend’s commitment to helping families that are coping with unimaginable circumstances at the annual Celebrity Golf Tournament.
Daley will be at Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco on September 4 showing his support for the Tackle Cancer Foundation, and enjoying a day on the green. Also trading in their hockey sticks for golf clubs on Tuesday will be Stars Alumni Daryl “Razor” Reaugh, Bob Bassen and Jere Lehtinen.
All golfers will be provided with lunch and the games will get underway at 1 p.m., with dinner and a silent auction following. Daley has donated a VIP Game Night experience, including dinner for four in Old No. 7, four glass seats at a Stars Game, transportation to and from the game and a Meet & Greet with Daley after the game. Two bidders will also get a chance to go home with a package of four lower level seats, provided by the Foundation.
All proceeds from the golf tournament and silent auction will go toward the costs of utility bills for families that have a child currently being treated for cancer in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated towards research for multiple myeloma, in memory of Tackle Cancer Foundation founder, Elijah Alexander. The Tackle Cancer Foundation has raised close to $300,000 to date and their events have helped support over 120 families during treatment.
If you’d like to help fight cancer with Trevor Daley and other Stars alumni it’s not too late. For more information, or to register, go to the Tackle Cancer Foundation’s Celebrity Golf Tournament website.
