SAN JOSE – San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis will host the inaugural “Curling with the Stars” event on Wed., July 28 at Sharks Ice at San Jose. In addition to Davis, Chris Plys, John Benton and Coach Phil Drobnik from the 2010 U.S. Men’s Curling team will also be in attendance.
Davis became a fan and supporter of curling after Bay Area Associated Press writer Janie McCauley challenged him to try the sport. Davis then served as an Honorary Captain for the U.S. Men’s Olympic team at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
“Curling with the Stars” will give sports fans a chance to learn how to curl from professionals and then showcase their skills in a friendly competition. Dinner and a silent auction will begin at 6 p.m. before the curling demonstration starts at 7:30 p.m.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Davis Family Foundation and the San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club. Dinner tickets are available for non-curling participants.
