Erik Brannstrom scored in the sixth round of the shootout to give the Vegas Golden Knights a 5-4 win against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center.
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare scored a shorthanded goal for Vegas with 3:32 remaining in the third period to tie it 4-4. Logan Couture scored a shorthanded goal with 58 seconds left in the second period to give San Jose a 4-2 lead. Oscar Lindberg got Vegas within 4-3 at 5:05 of the third with his second of the game. New San Jose defenseman Erik Karlsson, who was not in the lineup, skated onto the ice to reveal the Sharks' new third jersey early in the first period. Brent Burns, Timo Meier and Barclay Goodrow scored consecutive goals to give the Sharks a 3-1 lead, after Max Pacioretty scored for the Golden Knights 43 seconds into the game. Martin Jones made 27 saves for San Jose. Maxim Lagace made 20 for Vegas.
