Valley Christian and Team Burgundy Win Sharks High School Hockey League Championships

by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks
The San Jose Sharks would like to congratulate the Valley Christian Warriors (Varsity Division) and Team Burgundy (Junior Varsity Division) for capturing the 2006-07 Sharks/HP High School Hockey League Championships.
Valley Christian captured the Varsity Division Championship with a 2-0 series victory against their season-long rival Bellarmine Bells. The Warriors posted a nearly-undefeated record of 15-1-0 this season, sweeping the championship with a 3-0 overall record.
Team Burgundy, a team consisting of local players from Oak Grove and Santa Clara High Schools, defeated Team Orange, comprised of skaters from Branham, Mitty, Prospect and Andrew Hill High Schools to capture the JV Division crown. Their victory came following a 2-1 series victory in the best-of-three championship. Team Burgundy posted an impressive 3-0 shutout against the Team Orange in the final championship game to win the title.
The Sharks/HP High School Hockey League at Logitech Ice at San Jose is the first interscholastic high school hockey league in the Bay Area. The league currently includes nine teams in two divisions and has just wrapped up their seventh season.
Comprised of hockey players from local Bay Area high schools, each team is formulated based on each high school’s location. As interest in the league has increased over the past several seasons, Bellarmine and Valley Christian High Schools have recently drafted enough players from their respective schools to field teams consisting solely of their own students.
“Bellarmine and Valley Christian are the first to ice teams consisting entirely of their own student bodies and we hope that these teams will serve as models for other schools to follow,” said Robert Savoie, director of hockey at Logitech Ice at San Jose.
The Sharks/HP High School Hockey League runs from mid-November to April. The season consists of 18 practices, 15 games and the playoffs. The Sharks/HP High School Hockey League is open to all players currently enrolled in high school in Northern California.
