Arturs Irbe was drafted in the 10th round of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota North Stars. His first NHL team was the San Jose Sharks, where he played 5 seasons. In 1993-94 Irbe played a then-NHL record of 4412 minutes and led the Sharks to the biggest turnaround in NHL history, finishing with a 33-35-16 record, making the playoffs and earning himself Player of the Year. Irbe, known as “The Wall,” became the first Sharks goalie to be named to the NHL All-Star Game in 1994 and the first Sharks player to be inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.Click here
