The San Jose Sharks lost defenseman Patrick Traverse when the Montreal Canadiens claimed the blueliner off waivers Thursday. Had Traverse cleared waivers, he would have been eligible to play in the AHL for the Sharks top development affiliate, the Worcester Sharks.
Traverse spent all but one game of the 2005-06 season in the AHL with the Iowa Stars, playing one contest for the parent club in Dallas.
With Iowa Traverse scored 24 points (three goals, 21 assists) in 40 games.
Traverse, a third round selection by Ottawa in 1992, has played in 279 career NHL games with the Senators, Anaheim, Boston, Montreal and Dallas.
