TOSKALA NAMED MARCH SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY "SHARKS PLAYER OF THE MONTH"

Vesa Toskala was recently honored as the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Month” for the month of March. He also received the honors for February, becoming the first player to win the award in consecutive months. The award was presented prior to the Sharks game against the Phoenix Coyotes on April 1.


In addition, on April 10, he was named the NHL’s Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks, after posting a 4-0-0 record with a 0.98 goals-against average and a .950 save percentage.

For the month of March, Toskala posted a 7-2-1 record in 10 games, along with a 2.27 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. He was also named the NHL’s Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 26. During that span, Toskala was 3-0-0 with a 1.66 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage, including posting his first shutout on March 21 at St. Louis.

At the time of the award, Toskala had earned the Sharks at least one point in 19 out of his last 21 starts (16-2-3), posting a 2.30 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage.

Established in the 1996-97 season, the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Month” program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the team’s success each month. Seagate Technology will donate $2,500 on behalf of the player(s) to The Sharks Foundation. In addition, one player will be selected as the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Year” at the conclusion of the season and Seagate Technology will donate $5,000 on his behalf to The Sharks Foundation. Seagate Technology has donated more than $180,000 to The Sharks Foundation since the program's inception.
