Meier, 25, currently leads San Jose skaters in assists (24) and points (39), and ranks second in goals. Among NHL skaters, Meier is tied for ninth in points. His 1.22 points-per-game is currently a career high and is on pace to set individual season highs in almost all offensive categories, including goals, assists and points. After his game on Dec. 16 vs. Vancouver, Meier became the fourth Shark in franchise history to register at least 29 points in 25 games, joining Joe Thornton (35 in 2005-06, 32 in 2009-10, 31 in 2007-08 & 30 in 2008-09), Owen Nolan (31 in 1999-00) and Devin Setoguchi (29, 2008-09).
Over the course of his career, all with San Jose, Meier has registered 227 points (103 goals, 124 assists) in 349 games. He recorded his 100th career goal on Dec. 16 and his 200th NHL point on Nov. 13 at Colorado. During the 2018-19 season, he set single-season highs in goals (30), assists (36) and points (66), reaching the 30-goal threshold for the first time in his NHL career, and also set a record for most goals and points in a season by a Swiss-born player. Meier remains the only Swiss-born skater to reach the 30-goal mark in a season.
Internationally, Meier has represented Team Switzerland at the World Championship (2018, 2021) and the World Junior Championship (2015, 2016), where he captained the team in 2016. In 2018, he helped Team Switzerland to a Silver Medal, recording seven points (two goals, five assists) in seven games.
The 6-foot-1, 220-pound native of Herisau, Switzerland was selected by San Jose in the 2015 NHL Draft (first round, ninth overall).
