To celebrate Sharks history, each week we will highlight moments of the past. So check back to the Daily Chomp each week to celebrate with us for Throwback Thursday. In addition, we will be giving away special Sharks throwback items every Thursday.

This week the Daily Chomp takes a look at the Sharks 2009-10 season.

Did you know... San Jose won its second consecutive Western Conference Regular Season Championship as well as its fifth Pacific Division Championship (third straight). The Sharks also played in its second Western Conference Final (vs. Chicago).

More from that year:
  • The Sharks were only one of two teams to have three players with 80-plus points (Thornton, 89; Marleau, 83 and Heatley, 82).
  • As a team, San Jose finished amongst the NHL’s top-5 in the power play (21.0, fourth), penalty kill (85.0, fifth), even strength differential (plus-32, fourth), goals per game (3.13, fourth) and faceoff percentage (55.6, first).
  • San Jose had a National Hockey League-best eight players in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Among those players, four (Dan Boyle, Dany Heatley, Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton) won gold for Team Canada and Joe Pavelski helped Team USA win silver.
  • Acquired LW Dany Heatley and a fifth round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft from Ottawa (136th overall, Isaac MacLeod) in exchange for LW Milan Michalek, RW Jonathan Cheechoo and a second round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft on Sept. 12, 2009.
  • Signed C Manny Malhotra on Sept. 23, 2009.
  • Acquired D Niclas Wallin and a fifth round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft from Carolina in exchange for a section round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft (from Buffalo) on Feb. 7, 2010.

  • Captain Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger successfully landed US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River after the plane was struck by a flock of Canada geese shortly after takeoff.

  • The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, died at age 50.
  • Kayne West interrupted Taylor Swift's speech at the MTV Video Music Awards.
