SAN JOSE - The San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) announced today that forward Joe Thornton has been selected as the Sharks Foundation (@SharksCare) "Sharks Player of the Month" for February.
Thornton ranked second on the team in points (one goal, 10 assists) in 13 games during the month of February, leading the Sharks in assists (10) during the month. In addition, he registered a pair of three-assist nights (Feb. 2 vs. Edmonton, Feb. 13 at Arizona) during the month as a whole. Thornton also had a three-game point streak that ranged from Feb. 11-15, in which he posted six points (one goal, five assists).
This season, Thornton ranks tied third on the team in points (52), sixth in goals (12), and first in assists (40). In addition, Thornton ranks tied for 24th across the entire NHL in points, tied for 7th league-wide in assists, and 3rd league-wide in faceoff percentage (58.1%).
Established in the 1996-97 season, the Sharks Foundation "Sharks Player of the Month" program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the team's success each month. The Sharks Player of the Month and Year award program has donated more than $300,000 to the Sharks Foundation since the program's inception.
This is the 11th time Thornton has received the honor, the most in Sharks franchise history.
