The Hardest Working Fish In All The Land

by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks
In the realm of the NHL, you may have heard the Sharks P.A. announcer introduce S.J. Sharkie as “the hardest working fish in the NHL,” but few people really know how hard Sharkie actually works.
SharkieYou might think Sharkie is the hardest working fish in the NHL because you can find him visiting fans throughout HP Pavilion from the first row on the glass to the last row of the upper bowl. You might guess it was because of the amount of energy he exhibits every time you see him. But the real reason he’s been tagged as the hardest working fish in the NHL can be witnessed by his efforts last month.
In December alone, while everyone was out preparing for the holiday season, Sharkie has traveled across the Bay Area making nearly 100 public appearances. He was busy visiting charities, schools, birthday parties and corporate events - in addition to the Sharks nine home games - to spread joy to all his fans. Whether it was helping build new bikes for children at the Turning Wheels for Kids charity event or delivering pizzas for the Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria’s away game party, Sharkie made 98 public appearances during December - which is equivalent to more than three events per day!
Some of the charity events Sharkie was seen at include those for the City of San Jose, Toys for Tots, the Second Harvest Food Bank, Lift Up America, The Sharks Foundation, Irvington Business District, Rebekah’s Children’s Home, Turning Wheels for Kids and Healthy Start.
Sharkie’s list of corporate  events include Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria, Specialized Bicycles, Pepsi, HP, AT&T, AMD, Applied Materials, Sanmina SCI, Robert A. Bothman, Inc., Ticketmaster, National Semiconductor, Mentor Graphics, Fry’s Electronics, LSI Logic, DVD PLAY, Commonwealth Central Credit Union and Anheuser-Busch.
So the next time you come to watch a Sharks home game and hear the P.A. announcer express how hard a worker S.J. Sharkie is, you’ll know why.
