Ahead of Social Media Night, San Jose Sharks radio play-by-play broadcaster Dan Rusanowsky took time out of his busy schedule to participate in an AMA ("Ask Me Anything") on Reddit's /r/hockey subreddit. Hockey fans were able to submit their questions to Rusanowksy, who answered as many as he could.
Here are some of the highlights from the AMA.
What has been the most memorable call for you? Favourite goal? Game? Moment in hockey?
Several of you have asked this question. I think that there is some competition in my book, but my favorite calls represent several eras in Sharks history. The very first game in franchise history in Vancouver was "radio only" in the Bay Area. Calling Jamie Baker's series clincher in Detroit and Ray Whitney's double OT game 7 the next year in Calgary represents the next era. Patrick Marleau's OT goal in Game 3 vs. Detroit in 2010 is a favorite of mine. Of course, who can top the clinching game vs. STL last year and all 6 games of the 2016 Final vs. Pittsburgh? Those are a few on my lengthy list!
My favorite memory of the entire postseason was when the Sharks won the Western Conference - I was stuck in my car - and the emotion in your voice nearly brought me to tears. What was your favorite moment of the 2015-2016 playoff run?
That moment was right up there for me. It was also pretty exciting to call Joonas Donskoi's overtime winner in the next round!!
Do you ever get goosebumps or butterflies during a game?
All the time. There is always so much at stake, and there's nothing like a Sharks game!
Do you believe that cereal is a soup?
Cereal is most definitely NOT a soup. I take pride in making my own stock (usually chicken stock) and am in charge of making soup in the family. One of my favorites is Ukrainian borscht.
Where does 'Holiday Sweater' rank on your list of lifetime achievements?
I'd say that it certainly ranks as one of the most unique in my working career!
