Tank Tailgate Treats Fans to Tastings, Music and Sharks Celebrities

by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks

The Sharks Foundation kicked-off the beginning of the 2015-16 San Jose Sharks season with its inaugural Tank Tailgate at Fan Fest on Saturday, September 12 outside SAP Center. The first-time event welcomed 500 Sharks fans, who were able to sample beer from a selection of 23 brands provided by six different brewing companies. Throughout the day, breweries featured a celebrity bartender from the Sharks roster, allowing fans to get an up-close and personal experience with some of their favorite players.

With fall in the air, guests quickly gathered outside the white picket fence, which encompassed the Tailgate on Autumn Street. Once the doors opened at Noon, an animated Brent Burns and Mike Brown greeted fans. It was also an opportunity to personally welcome new San Jose defenseman Paul Martin, who served as a celebrity bartender to start the day.

The trio of players donned new Sharks heritage jerseys, which will be worn during select games throughout the year in conjunction with the 25th Anniversary Season.

Before the first wave of Sharks moved on to different Fan Fest events, Brown delighted fans by playing the cowbell along with the event’s band, the Cocktail Monkeys, who entertained guests throughout the day.

Tastings were available until 3:45 p.m., while the remainder of Sharks Celebrities, including Tommy Wingels, Matt Nieto, Alex Stalock, Frazer McLaren, Barclay Goodrow, Troy Grosenick, Logan Couture, Bryan Lerg, Matt Tennyson, Dylan DeMelo, Karl Stollery and Chris Tierney served beer, signed autographs and mingled with the crowd. Before guests left they also received a one-of-a-kind 25th Anniversary Tank Tailgate ceramic stein.

At the close of the afternoon, the Sharks Foundation raised nearly $17,000 from Tank Tailgate ticket sales alone and also stand to benefit from every ticket sold from the 2015 San Jose Sharks Fan Fest, making the day both an entertaining experience for fans, and a success for charitable fundraising.

The Sharks Foundation would like to acknowledge and thank brewing company partners: Anheuser Busch, Firestone, Gordon Biersch, MillerCoors, New Belgium and Sierra Nevada as well as Capelo’s Country Hill BBQ food truck and the Cocktail Monkeys for their involvement in the Sharks Foundation’s inaugural Tank Tailgate at Fan Fest.
