Sharks Visit ASHN Championships

by San Jose Sharks Staff / San Jose Sharks
The first Adult Safe Hockey Network (ASHN) North American Championship hosted off of Canadian soil came to an end Saturday after six days of non-stop competition at Sharks Ice in San Jose.

Adding to the excitement surrounding the 65-team tournament were San Jose Shark Coaches Todd McLellan and Jay Woodcroft, and players Jeremy Roenick and Brad Lukowich, who were on hand to help award the trophies to the 12 division winners.

The ASHN previously hosted its annual national championship at Canlan Ice Sports facilities where it could only support 30 to 32 teams due to the rink accessibility limitations. Now, because of Sharks Ice’s immensity (it is the largest rink facility west of the Mississippi) the tournament’s size and length has doubled.

The ASHN is an online network of more than 60,000 recreational hockey players owned by or affiliated with Canlan Ice Sports. The international network aims to enhance a player’s normal hockey experience with online features and membership benefits such as insurance, player registration, prizing, opportunities to qualify for championships and online tools for finding rinks, tournaments and other adult recreational hockey players.
