The San Jose Sharks are partnering with Lift Up America in early December to help accomplish Lift Up America’s goal to bring the gift of food, the gift of sight and the gift of hope to our nation’s less fortunate. A series of 25 Lift Up America events will occur in major cities across the nation during the week of Dec. 4, 2005, with Lift Up America partners Tyson Foods, LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, and Ty.
On Tuesday, Dec. 6 when the Sharks host the Atlanta Thrashers at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Sharks fans attending the game are asked to bring used eyeglasses and sunglasses and donate them to the Lift Up America Gift of Sight program at the collection bins that will be placed at the building’s entrances.
On Wednesday, Dec. 7, members of the Sharks organization, including S.J. Sharkie, team broadcasters and several players will visit City Team Ministries on 13th street to help in the distribution of food donations to local agencies. Tyson is bringing food donations (a total of 2.24 million meals) to many cities across America in the fight against hunger “Powered by Tyson.”
Unlike traditional teams, there are no touchdowns, goals or baskets to be scored, nor are there any shareholder or new product development meetings taking place. Lift Up America is creating a new kind of “team,” motivated by genuine care and concern with the goals of feeding the nation’s hungry, providing vision screenings and prescription glasses, and comforting children at the forefront. With the help of more than 500 agencies and 25 sports teams, Lift Up America will be bringing needed gifts and compassion to thousands of families nationwide.

This year, the team consists of Tyson Foods, LensCrafters, Pearle Vision and the Give the Gift of Sight Foundation and Ty. Tyson is bringing food donations (a total of 2.24 million meals) to many cities across America in the fight against hunger “Powered by Tyson™”. LensCrafters, Pearle Vision and the Give the Gift of Sight Foundation will be helping more than 25,000 people with free vision screenings, eye exams and prescription eyeglasses. Ty is providing brand new Beanie Babies® (over 300,000) to every child of each family to comfort and bring hope to these little ones. In addition to NFL, NBA, and NHL teams, numerous college teams will be joining the effort.
Lift Up America teams will be distributing food, eye care and toys to less fortunate families across the nation. Local agencies will assist with identifying the recipients in each participating city and the sports teams will help with the distribution at each event.
