Hockey fans can beat the heat this summer by hitting the ice and signing up for one of the San Jose Sharks Summer Hockey Schools.
The goal of the Sharks Summer Hockey Schools is to enhance player development through professional instruction and challenging programs in an enthusiastic and fun atmosphere. The schools will focus on hockey fundamentals, skills, tactics and systems. In addition, our coaches and counselors will emphasize the importance of a strong work ethic, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Skills Development Camp: June 19-23, 2006 Skills Development Camps, taught by Cleveland Barons (AHL) Head Coach Roy Sommer, are progressive in nature and are designed to enhance and improve hockey fundamentals, with an emphasis on skating, passing, shooting and tactical play. This camp is great for all ability levels and is designed for children ages 6-13. Cost: $425
Skills Development Camp – GIRLS ONLY!: June 26-30, 2006 The Sharks support the increasing popularity of girls’ hockey and aim to encourage more growth in both number of participants and the level of skill of each skater through this camp. Join Coach Sommer and the Sharks staff for this Girls Only camp for girls age 11-19. Cost: $425
“Future Sharks Summer Cup” Scrimmage Camp: August 1-5, 2006 Designed for AAA/AA & A/B level players, this camp simulates the training camp atmosphere of the popular “Pacific Division Shootout” Rookie Tournament. Daily activities include a morning skate, a video/instructional session and a round robin tournament in which the teams will compete for the coveted “Sharks Summer Cup.” Instruction focuses on individual as well as team tactics. Cost: $200
Camp Billeting Program In an effort to make Sharks Summer Hockey Schools accessible to all kids in the Bay Area and beyond, we will be offering our Camp Billeting Program again this year. If your family is able to billet/host one child for camp this summer, the Sharks will deduct $100 from your son or daughter’s camp dues. Call 408-999-6767 for details.
Adult Camp: June 19-23, 2006 (6:30pm – 8:00pm nightly) For adults looking to improve or refine their game, Coach Sommer and the rest of the Sharks Camp Staff will put you to the test with individual and team drills, in addition to a full scrimmage. Your hockey skills and fitness level will improve after participating in this camp. Cost: $200
Coaching Staff Coaches are the backbone of any successful hockey program and this summer we have assembled our finest Summer Hockey School staff ever. All coaches on our staff have either coached or played at the professional level.
Roy Sommer – Head Coach, Cleveland Barons (AHL): Coach Sommer is currently in his sixth year as the Featured Coach for Sharks Summer Hockey Schools and also his sixth season as the Head Coach of the Cleveland Barons – the Sharks top development affiliate. Coach Sommer is responsible for developing the Sharks young players to prepare them for the rigors of the NHL.
Sharks Hockey Camp Staff:
Rob Zettler – San Jose Sharks Assistant Coach: Coach Zettler, an original San Jose Shark and a 14-year NHL veteran, returns to the Sharks Summer Hockey Schools for his third consecutive year.
Tim Hunter – San Jose Sharks Assistant Coach: Coach Hunter, a 16-year NHL veteran and a Stanley Cup Champion, is in his third season as Sharks Assistant Coach.
David Cunniff- Assistant Coach, Cleveland Barons (AHL): A former collegiate and professional player, David joined Coach Sommer behind the bench during the 2002-03 Season.
Graeme Townshend – Power Skating Coach: Joining the Sharks Summer Camps for the third straight year is Graeme Townshend – Power Skating instructor for various Sharks summer development camps.
Derek Eisler – Director of Coaches, San Jose Jr. Sharks: A former NHL, collegiate, and junior coach, Derek has served as the Director of Coaches for the San Jose Jr. Sharks for the past two seasons.
Webb Sommer – Athletic Trainer: NATA certified since 1990, Webb Sommer brings a wealth of experience to Sharks camps including experience as a trainer with the USA Olympic Training Center, the USA Inline Hockey Team, and the Springfield Falcons of the AHL.
