SAN JOSE, CA - In conjunction with the new health and safety directive mandated by the San Jose City Council, Sharks Sports & Entertainment (SSE) announced revisions to its guest attendance policy for SAP Center at San Jose and the three Sharks Ice public recreational facilities operated by SSE management: Sharks Ice at San Jose, Sharks Ice at Fremont and the Oakland Ice Center, Operated by Sharks Ice.
Effective September 20, 2021, all guests ages 12 and older who visit SAP Center at San Jose, or any Sharks Ice facility will be required to show proof of vaccination upon entry. The requirement will remain in place until state and local health and safety guidance is revised, and there are no exemptions to this policy.
The mandate, which affects events being held at City-owned venues with more than 50 attendees, was announced by the City of San Jose on Tuesday, August 18, and approved by the San Jose City Council on Aug. 24. The first event at SAP Center at San Jose to be impacted by the new policy is Gold Over America Tour Starring Simone Biles, an Olympic gymnastics exhibition scheduled for Sunday, September 26.
Events held prior to September 20 must still comply with the requirements outlined by the State of California's Blueprint for a Safer Economy, which require attestation and certification by each guest at the point of ticket purchase that all members of their party are fully vaccinated against COIVD-19 or have received a negative result from a COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of the event. As of this date, the time-limited exception applies to Monster Jam (Sept. 3-5), Maluma (Sept. 9), Los Angeles Azules (Sept. 10) and Bellator (Sept. 18).
SSE has partnered with CLEAR and their Health Pass technology to provide guests with a seamless and convenient process to show proof of full vaccination. Based on best health practices, guests of SAP Center and Sharks Ice facilities will be organized into four groups:
- All guests aged 18 and over: Each guest will need to create a CLEAR Health Pass account and add their proof of vaccination. If unable to create a Health Pass, guests will be required to provide physical proof of vaccination status at the facility. Acceptable forms of proof of vaccination include a physical CDC vaccination card or a Digital Vaccine Record, which can be found at myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov.
- All guests aged 14 to 17: Each guest will need an adult to create a CLEAR account and have them added as a minor to the account through the app's settings. Once added and enrolled as a minor, the minor guest will be able to download the CLEAR app, login to their account, add proof of vaccination, and generate their own Health Pass. If a minor guest is unable to be added to an adult's account, they will be required to provide physical proof of the minor's vaccination status at the facility. Acceptable forms of proof of vaccination include a physical CDC vaccination card or a Digital Vaccine Record, which can be found at myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov.
- All guests aged 12 and 13: Current City of San Jose health protocols mandate that all guests aged 12 and over must be vaccinated to attend an event with more than 50 people in a city-owned facility. Due to current best practices, CLEAR does not provide a Health Pass for 12- and 13-year-olds. Thus, adults or guardians with minors that are 12 or 13 years old will be required to provide physical proof of the minor's vaccination status at the facility. Acceptable forms of proof of vaccination include a physical CDC vaccination card or a Digital Vaccine Record, which can be found at myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov.
- All guests under 12 years of age: No proof of vaccination is required.
Guests should create a CLEAR Health Pass at least 24 hours prior to the event they will be attending at SAP Center at San Jose and Sharks Ice at San Jose.
