SAN JOSE, California – San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed forward Tyler Kennedy to a two-year contract.
Last season, Kennedy played in 46 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins, posting 11 points (six goals, five assists) and 19 penalty minutes. Kennedy also played nine playoff games with Pittsburgh, registering five points (two goals, three assists), a +6 rating (1st on the team) and two penalty minutes.
In 2011-12 Kennedy tallied 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists), a +10 rating and 29 penalty minutes. In six postseason games he posted six points (three goals, three assists), a +1 rating and two penalty minutes.
The 26 year-old Kennedy has appeared in 372 NHL games, all with Pittsburgh, registering 168 points (76 goals, 92 assists), a +32 rating and 181 penalty minutes. He scored a career-high 21 goals in 2010-11.
In 76 Stanley Cup Playoff games, Kennedy has tallied 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) and 25 penalty minutes and won a Stanley Cup in 2009.
The five-foot-eleven, 185-pound native of Sault Ste. Marie, ON was acquired by San Jose from Pittsburgh on June 30, 2013 in exchange for a second round draft selection (50th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft. He was originally selected by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (99th overall) of the 2004 NHL Draft.
