SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed forward Nikolay Goldobin (goal-DOBIN) to a standard, entry-level contract.
"Nikolay is a dynamic player with a high-end skill set and tremendous vision," said Wilson. "He's got great hockey sense which we feel will allow him to be successful."
Goldobin, the Sharks first-round selection (27th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft, played for the Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) during the 2013-14 season. The 18-year-old forward recorded 94 points (38 goals, 56 assists) and 21 penalty minutes in 67 games, leading Sarnia in scoring while ranking seventh amongst all OHL players in points. He strung together a 22-game point streak from Nov. 14, 2013 to Jan. 11, 2014, registering 43 points (21 goals, 22 assists) and three four-point performances during that span.
In 2012-13, Goldobin was the runner-up for the OHL Rookie of the Year award and was named to the OHL All-Rookie Second Team, posting 68 points (30 goals, 38 assists) in 68 games with the Sting, totals that ranked first amongst all OHL rookies in both goals and points.
Internationally, Goldobin represented his home country of Russia at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament, registering three points (one goal, two assists) in four games.
The five-foot-ten, 185-pound native of Moscow, Russia is currently participating in San Jose's 2014 Training Camp, and recorded one goal and one assist in his first career NHL preseason game on Sept. 23 vs. Vancouver.
