SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed right wing Alex Schoenborn (SHANE-born, @aschoenborn22) to a standard, entry-level contract.
"Alex plays the game with a physical edge that helps keep his opponents honest," said Wilson. "His combination of size and skill makes him a difficult player to play against and Portland Head Coach Jamie Kompon has helped him raise his all-around game. We look forward to him joining our organization."
Schoenborn, 20, currently ranks T-2nd on the Portland Winterhawks in goals (27), 3rd points (53) and 6th in assists (26) in 61 games this season, nearly doubling his totals in all three categories from last year. His 72 penalty minutes rank 2nd on the team, and he has set career highs in goals, assists and points this season.
In 202 career WHL games with Portland, Schoenborn has posted 124 points (61 goals, 63 assists), 281 penalty minutes and a plus-8 rating. He has added six goals and three assists in 38 career playoff games.
In 2011-12, the forward helped Team USA earn the gold medal at the U-17 Five Nations Tournament, posting three assists in five games.
The six-foot-one, 200-pound native of Minot, ND, was drafted by San Jose in the 2014 NHL Draft (third round, 72nd overall).
