San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed defenseman Derek Joslin to an NHL contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Joslin has spent the last four seasons with the Ottawa 67s in the Ontario Hockey League. This season, the Richmond Hill, Ontario native has posted 22 points (three goals, 19 assists) in 32 games, while registering 33 penalty minutes.
In 2005-06, Joslin led Ottawa in scoring among defensemen and was sixth overall, with 48 points (11 goals, 37 assists) in 68 games. His 48 points placed him 14th overall among all OHL defensemen, earning him a spot on Team OHL, which competed against Team Russia last November.
“We know Derek comes from a great program in Ottawa with great coaches and we look forward to him joining our organization,” said Wilson.
The six-foot-one, 205-pound defenseman was selected by San Jose in the fifth round (149th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Joslin will remain with the 67s this season.
