SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed free agent center Benn Ferriero
(FEHR-ee-oh) to a two-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Ferriero, 22, recently completed his senior season at Boston College in 2008-09 posting 26 points (8-18=26) in 37 games. In four seasons at Boston College, he appeared in 165 games and recorded 139 points (64-75=139) and won the National Championship in 2007-08. He finished his career ranked fifth on Boston College’s all-time games played list, 26th in goals and 30th in points.
“Benn had a great deal of success at BC and we’re happy that we were in a position to acquire him,” said Wilson. “He is a fierce competitor on both ends of the ice and has a high hockey IQ. BC’s head coach Jerry York and his staff has done a tremendous job of preparing him to make the jump to the professional level.”
The five-foot-eleven, 195-pound native of Boston, Massachusetts was originally selected by Phoenix in the seventh round (196th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
