The San Jose Sharks will open the 2011-12 regular season, their 21st as a member of the National Hockey League, at HP Pavilion at San Jose on Saturday, Oct. 8 against the Phoenix Coyotes. The team will play their first road game on Friday, Oct. 14 against the Anaheim Ducks.

The 2011-12 Sharks schedule consists of 82 games – 41 home and 41 road contests.

The home schedule features 13 weekend contests (all Saturday). The busiest home weeknight is Thursday (12), followed by Monday and Tuesday (five each), Wednesday (four) and Friday (two).

The Sharks will play Pacific Division rivals (Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles and Phoenix) six times each for a total of 24 games, in addition to playing members of the Western Conference’s Northwest Division (Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Minnesota and Vancouver) and Central Division (Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Nashville and St. Louis) four times each (40 games).

The remaining 18 games in the 82-game schedule will involve each club playing every opponent in the other conference at least once, home or away, with the three remaining games being devoted to interconference “at large” scheduling. This season San Jose’s “at-large” opponents are comprised of Washington and 2010-11 Eastern Conference finalists Boston and Tampa Bay.

The Sharks three-way intra-state rivalry continues with the Anaheim Ducks (Oct. 17, Dec. 26, March 19) and the Los Angeles Kings (Nov. 7, Dec. 23, April 7) each making three visits to San Jose.

The Sharks have two season-high, six-game homestands – first from Nov. 3-17, then again from Dec. 15-28. San Jose’s longest road trip is a nine-game stretch from Feb. 12-26.

The 59th annual NHL All-Star Game will be held Jan. 29, 2012 in Ottawa, Ontario. The All-Star Break will be Jan. 28-30. The last Sharks game before the break will take place Jan. 24 at Calgary, with the regular season resuming on Jan. 31 vs. Columbus.

Information on Sharks individual game tickets and a complete broadcast schedule will be released at a later date.
