7:03 Ferriero wins it for the Sharks following the old addage if you throw it to the net good things will happen. In his first career playoff game and on his 24th birthday he is the hero. Sharks on a cycle in the left wing corner get the puck to Ferriero and his wrist shot slips through the legs of Howard and in as the Sharks take game one and are now 4-0 in overtime playoff games for 2011.

20:00 All tied at the end of regulation and the Wings were lucky to survive regualtion. The Sharks were peppering Howard from all angles and the Detroit netminder made huge saves to keep it tied. Sharks outshot the Red Wings 12-7 in the third and lead 39-24 for the night. Sharks are 3-0 in overtimes thus far in the playoffs.

The Sharks captain blasted a slap shot from the top of the right circle that Howard made a blocker save on; the puck popped into the air and Pavelski whacked it in out of the air and into the net.

After the Sharks dominated the opening two-thirds of the period, the Red Wings controlled the final part. Niemi and the Sharks caught a huge break as a shot late in the period slid behind the Sharks goalie and went along the goaline. Detroit took the final six shots of the period, but San Jose still leads 27-17 in that category.
