San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has recalled defenseman Derek Joslin from the Worcester Sharks, the team’s top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.
Joslin was third on Worcester in scoring, first among defensemen with 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists) in 34 games.
The team also reassigned forward Jamie McGinn to Worcester.
“Roy Sommer called me into his office yesterday afternoon,” said Joslin. “He gave me my flight info and I got in late last night.”
Joslin has been a full-time professional since heading to Worcester full-time last year and he has been waiting on this message from San Jose.
“It’s amazing,” said Joslin. “You don’t know how you will feel until it happens. It’s a dream come true.”
The rookie is hoping to get his first game action on Saturday and even though Douglas Murray
skated with the team, Joslin may still get his shot.
“I’m hoping my first game is going to happen,” said Joslin.
Joslin noted just skating with the NHLers has him learning already.
“It’s great to be able to be here in the regular season,” said Joslin. “It’s good for me to see guys like Blake and Boyle out there.”
