Sharks Reassign Defenseman Derek Joslin To Worcester
San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has reassigned defenseman Derek Joslin to the Worcester Sharks (AHL).
Joslin has spent the last four seasons with the Ottawa 67s in the Ontario Hockey League. This season, the Richmond Hill, Ontario native led Ottawa in scoring among defenseman for the second consecutive season and was fourth overall with 49 points (11 goals, 38 assists). In 68 games, he registered 66 penalty minutes and his 49 points ranked him 14th among all OHL defensemen.
In five postseason games this season, Joslin ranked third on the team with five points (one goal, four assists) and a +1 plus/minus rating. He signed an NHL contract with the Sharks on Dec. 28, 2006.
In 2005-06, Joslin ranked sixth among Ottawa scorers with 48 points (11 goals, 37 assists) in 68 games. His 48 points placed him 14th overall among all OHL defensemen, earning him a spot on Team OHL, which competed against Team Russia last November.
The six-foot-one, 205-pound defenseman was selected by San Jose in the fifth round (149th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Worcester Sharks Sign Forward Jamie McGinn to Amateur Try-Out
Worcester Sharks General Manager Wayne Thomas announced today that the club has signed forward Jamie McGinn of the Ottawa 67’s (OHL) to an ATO. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
McGinn, a 6-foot, 180-pound center completed his third season with Ottawa of the Ontario Hockey League with 89 points (46 goals, 43 assists) in 68 games played. McGinn led all scorers on Ottawa and was ranked seventh in the OHL in goals and 17th in points. Of his 46 goals, 21 came on the power play which ranked him 10th in the league in that category.
In three seasons with the 67’s, McGinn compiled 82 goals and 86 assists for 168 points. In addition to his 168 regular season points, McGinn also recorded 21 points in 29 games played during the OHL Playoffs.
The native of Fergus, Ontario was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the second round (36th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
