Sharks Re-Sign Forward Ryan Carpenter

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed pending unrestricted forward Ryan Carpenter (@CarpyDeuces) to a two-year contract.

"Ryan's leadership throughout the 2016-17 season and into the Western Conference Final was an integral part of the Barracuda's success," said Sharks Assistant General Manager and San Jose Barracuda General Manager Joe Will. "His outstanding play in the playoffs is a testament to his ability to perform in big games, and his offensive abilities are an asset to the San Jose Sharks."

Carpenter, 26, recorded 39 points (14 goals, 25 assists) with a plus-17 rating and 145 shots on goal in 54 games during the 2016-17 season with the San Jose Barracuda. He finished 6th in both points and assists on the Barracuda, T-8th in goals, 1st in shorthanded assists and 5th in shots on goal. Carpenter played in all 15 of the Barracuda's 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs games, and finished 1st on the team in goals (9), assists (8) and points, and tied for 1st in plus/minus (+6). In 11 games with the San Jose Sharks this season, he scored two goals and two assists and finished with a plus-5 rating. He scored his first NHL goal on November 30, 2016 at the Los Angeles Kings. 

In 206 career AHL games, all with the Worcester Sharks/San Jose Barracuda franchise, Carpenter has tallied 44 goals and 86 assists. He has a plus-42 rating, 457 shots on goal and 105 penalty minutes. During the 2015-16 AHL season, he led the Barracuda in points (55), assists (37) and plus/minus (plus-20), and was named to the 2016 AHL All-Star Game. Carpenter made his NHL debut on December 12, 2015 against Minnesota at SAP Center.

Prior to turning pro, in 100 career collegiate games with Bowling Green, Carpenter registered 79 points (37-42=79) and 51 penalty minutes, while serving as team captain his sophomore and junior seasons. In his freshman season (2011-12), he was honored with the Bowling Green Rookie of the Year Award and led the team in assists (19) and points (30).

The six-foot, 195-pound forward was born in Oviedo, Florida. He was signed by San Jose as a free agent on March 25, 2014.
