) Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed Group II restricted free agent forward Andrew Desjardins
) to a two-year contract.
“Andrew is a player that plays with an edge, can kill penalties and has the ability to play the North-South game we desire,” said Wilson. “He always competes hard as is always there for his teammates.
In 2012-13, Desjardins played 42 games for San Jose, posting 3 points (two goals, one assist), 61 penalty minutes, 53 hits and a 54.2% success rate in the faceoff circle. Desjardins played in all 11 playoff games for San Jose, finishing +1 with 28 hits.
In 2011-2012 Desjardins was named “PlayStation® “Sharks Rookie of the Year” in voting conducted by a panel of Bay Area media after a season in which he posted 17 points (four goals, 13 assists), a +4 rating, 47 penalty minutes, and a 53% success rate in the faceoff circle.
The 26 year-old Desjardins has has appeared in 135 career regular season NHL games with San Jose, registering 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) and 112 penalty minutes.
The six-foot-one, 200-pound native of Lively, ON was signed by San Jose as a free agent on June 26, 2010.
