Ferraro, 23, recorded 14 points (two goals, 12 assists) in 63 games played. He led San Jose in blocked shots (151) and ranked third in hits (140) by the end of the season. He also finished ninth in blocks-per-60 (6.25) among NHL skaters and prior to his injury on Feb. 26, he was third in blocked shots with 127. On Nov. 6 vs. New Jersey, he became the seventh pair of Sharks defensemen in franchise history to both log at least 30 minutes of TOI in a game.
Over the course of his NHL career, he has recorded 42 points (five goals, 37 assists) in 180 games. Since his debut in 2019-20, he leads Sharks skaters in hits (415), ranks second in blocked shots (305) and in blocks-per-60 (4.98, minimum 50 games).
Prior to his NHL career, Ferraro registered 37 points (six goals, 31 assists), 43 penalty minutes and a plus-11 rating in 80 games with UMass. In his NCAA rookie season (2017-18), he was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team after leading all team defensemen in scoring with 23 points on four goals and 19 assists. He set a program record for most points by a freshman defenseman and finished second on the team in blocked shots (54). In 2018-19, he helped UMass to the NCAA Hockey East Championship and was named to the Hockey East Third All-Star Team.
He also appeared with the Des Moines Buccaneers in the United States Hockey League (USHL). He finished with 41 points (eight goals, 33 assists) in 60 games played. In 2016-17, he was named to the USHL First All-Star Team and USHL All-Rookie Team after tying for first among USHL defensemen in goals and second in points and assists.
The six-foot, 209-pound native of Toronto, Ontario, was selected by San Jose in the 2017 NHL Draft (second round, 49th overall).
