Sharks Radio Now in Walnut Creek-Concord

by San Jose Sharks Staff / San Jose Sharks
SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks and KKDV 92.1 FM today announced an agreement for the Walnut Creek-based radio station to become an affiliate of the San Jose Sharks Radio Network.

At the same time, the team announced that a total of 11 stations will comprise the network’s station lineup for the 2008-09 National Hockey League season. The flagship radio station is 98.5 KFOX (KUFX-FM), which services San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland.

A 50-game radio schedule will air on KKDV 92.1 FM during the regular season. Owned and operated by Coast Radio, KKDV-FM is a 3,000 watt station with a signal that can be heard throughout the Diablo Valley region, including areas such as Walnut Creek and Concord, where many ardent Sharks supporters reside and do business.

Along with their 50 scheduled regular season broadcasts, KKDV-FM is expected to carry a schedule of select Stanley Cup playoff games.

“At KKDV, we strive to provide programming relevant to the lives of our listeners in the Diablo Valley,” said Coast Radio President and General Manager John Levitt. “Based on the significant Sharks fan base in this region, we feel that becoming part of the Sharks Radio Network is clearly serving the interests of the community. Go Sharks!”

“We are delighted to reach this arrangement with KKDV 92.1 FM and all of our excellent affiliate stations,” said Sharks Executive Vice-President Malcolm Bordelon. “Sharks hockey has a large fan contingent in Northern California, and our radio broadcasts are a primary link between these supporters and our team.”

Dan Rusanowsky returns for his 19th season of Sharks play-by-play. A 30-year veteran of radio broadcasting, Rusanowsky has called well over 1,300 Sharks games and all 125 Sharks playoff games. Jamie Baker, who played 10 years in the NHL, including several with the Sharks, returns for his fifth year of color commentary.
