Sasha Chmelevski of the San Jose Barracuda, San Jose's top developmental affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), has been selected as the "Sharks Prospect of the Week" for the week of Dec. 23. Chmelevski posted three points (two goals, one assist) in the Barracuda's two games.
Chmelevski, 20, now has 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 18 games with the Barracuda, in his first professional season of hockey.
More impressively, Chmelevski picked up 11 of those 12 points (five goals, six assists) in the Barracuda's last 12 games, after he missed nine games due to injury.
Last season, the centerman registered 75 points (35 goals, 40 assists) in 56 games with Ottawa in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and led the 67's to the OHL Final with 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) in 18 playoff games. He also represented the United States in the 2019 World Junior Championships, where he added seven points (in seven games) and helped the U.S. capture a silver medal.
The six-foot, 190-pound native of Huntington Beach, CA was originally selected by San Jose in the 2017 NHL Draft (sixth round, 185th overall).
