by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks

San Jose Sharks (@sanjosesharks) prospect Kevin Labanc became the Barrie Colts' new franchise single-season assists record holder on Thursday night against the Niagara IceDogs, collecting his 74th of the campaign on defenceman Rasmus Andersson's 12th goal of the season.

Labanc surpassed Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds Head Coach Sheldon Keefe's record of 73 set with the Colts during the 1999-2000 season.

A native of Staten Island, NY, Labanc is currently in his second season with the Colts. The 19 year-old winger's 75 assists are third in the OHL while his 103 points on the season (28 goals, 75 assists) are second in Colts scoring behind captain Joseph Blandisi.

Labanc's memorable season included Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week honors for the week ending February 1 after he scored four goals and four assists for eight points in three games. The 5'11", 179 lb. winger also strung together a lengthy 25-game point streak that spanned from November 1 to January 10, a period where he collected 15 goals, 37 assists and 52 points.

Labanc was San Jose's sixth round (171st overall pick) in the 2014 NHL Draft.
