To celebrate and honor the rising tide of women in Silicon Valley, the San Jose Sharks hosted their first-ever Women of Teal Night on Thursday, March 28, coinciding with Women's History Month. The event was highlighted by a pregame networking reception and panel discussion led by several high-profile Bay Area leaders including Carmen O'Shea, SVP, Culture & Employee Engagement at SAP, Annabel Chang, VP, Bay Area for Alaska Airlines, Kristi Melani, Poly's VP Digital Marketing & Customer Experience, Kathleen Pedrosa Ward, Regional Program Director West Coast for Team IMPACT, and Melanie Nelson, VP Marketing & Communications at Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.
Several themes were touched upon by both the panelists and the women in attendance, including reminders to maintain your own authenticity, to avoid comparisons between one individual path and another, to raise our youth without bias, to find harmony over balance, the importance of networking and mentorship, to continue changing the world through meaningful conversations, and a belief that nothing is ever out of reach.
Following the panel discussion, San Jose Sharks President Jonathan Becher said, "We are honored to host such an impactful event which showcases the diversity of our community, our fanbase, and our own organization. Bringing together men and women of all ages and career stages proves the power the color teal and the sport of hockey have to unite the Bay Area."
