On Sept. 8-12, the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo will play host to the fourth annual “Pacific Division Shootout” featuring prospects from the Sharks, Phoenix Coyotes, Los Angeles Kings and the Anaheim Ducks. This event is a chance for fans to see the future stars of the NHL as they compete against their own peer groups. The tournament will consist of two games each day (except Sunday, Sept. 10), highlighted by the Consolation and Championship Games on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
“This tournament provides a great opportunity for our prospects and recent draft picks to play in a game environment against members of their own peer group,” said Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson. “It gives our scouting staff an opportunity to evaluate our players and see their progression first-hand. The tournament has seen some great players on the ice and this year will be no different.”
“Future Sharks” scheduled to participate in this year’s tournament include first round draft selections Lukas Kaspar
(2004), Devin Setoguchi
(2005) and Ty Wishart
(2006), as well as Marc-Edouard Vlasic
(second round, 2005) and Jamie McGinn
(second round, 2006) and Joe Pavelski
(seventh round, 2003).
Ticket information and complete team rosters will be announced at a later date.
Following the tournament, the Sharks are scheduled to hit the ice on September 15, as their 2006 Training Camp begins at Logitech Ice. The Sharks first preseason game will be Sept. 19 vs. the Kings at Staples Center.
San Jose will open the 2006-07 NHL season on Oct. 5 vs. St. Louis.
