SAN JOSE, CA - The San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) announced today that defenseman Brent Burns (@Burnzie88) has been selected as the Sharks Foundation (@SharksCare) "Sharks Player of the Month" for October.
Burns ranked second on the Sharks in points (10), tied for the team lead in assists (7) and third in goals (3) during the season's first month. He registered a point in six of the nine contests the Sharks played in the month of October. Across the NHL, Burns was tied for the lead in points by a defenseman, was tied for second in assists, and tied for third in goals. On top of that, his 45 shots on goal in the month of October led all skaters in the NHL.
The native of Barrie, Ontario, came out of the gate especially quick with three goals and six assists in his first five games of the season, and had three multi-point games in that span.
Established in the 1996-97 season, the Sharks Foundation "Sharks Player of the Month" program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the team's success each month. The Sharks Player of the Month and Year award program has donated more than $300,000 to the Sharks Foundation since the program's inception.
This is the sixth player of the month recognition for Burns.
