On June 22, the Shanks Foundation had the pleasure of visiting the Greater San Jose After School All-Stars (ASAS) and presenting their Executive Director, John Poch a check for $25,000.
“After School All-Stars makes an immediate impact on the lives of hundreds of children throughout our community by encouraging academic achievement and providing a positive alternative to risky behavior,” said Foundation Manager Laura Johnston during the check presentation. “The Sharks Foundation is honored to assist in their efforts.”
Sharks mascot S.J. Sharkie, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer Charlie Faas, Senior Director of Communications Ken Arnold and Fan Development Coordinator Erin Buchanan were on hand for the check presentation, which took place during the annual ASAS Staff Appreciation BBQ at Bernal Park in San Jose.
The mission of ASAS is to provide comprehensive out-of-school programs that keep children safe and help them achieve success in school and life. The Sharks Foundation funding will allow them to expand services into the Franklin McKinley School District, providing various sports clinics and competitions, as wells as after-school Homework Centers and opportunities for family involvement. Students can gain recreational opportunities, academic support, social development and positive relationships with supportive adults. For more information, please visit www.afterschoolallstars.org
