“We are proud to be associated with these outstanding organizations,” said Greg Jamison, president and chief executive officer for the San Jose Sharks. “The Sharks Foundation selected these organizations because they reach deeply into the community in many different ways and touch the lives of thousands of kids in Santa Clara County. We hope the support of The Sharks Foundation will help these organizations continue their efforts to have a positive impact in our community.”
Over the course of the 2006-07 season, the San Jose Sharks will donate a total of $317,535 in grants to 19 local beneficiaries. The Sharks Foundation board selected the 19 beneficiaries from more than 80 grant applications that were submitted last Fall.
Family Supportive Housing’s mission is to provide a safe shelter, meals and other supportive services to homeless families in San Jose. Some services include day-care, case management, tutoring and employment referrals. The Sharks Foundation grant will be used for the purchase of a cargo van, which is integral to securing and transporting food for the day-to-day operations of their shelter. “We are absolutely thrilled to have the Sharks Foundation support for the shelter,” said Stacey Hendler Ross, a member of the Board of Directors for Family Supportive Housing. “We used the money to purchase a 2006 Plymouth minivan to transport food and supplies for the shelter and its residents.”
Teen and Family Counseling Center’s mission is to provide affordable counseling and related services to teens and their families to facilitate positive changes in their lives. The Sharks Foundation grant will support their Drug & Alcohol Awareness and Resiliency program, which is designed to educate, assess, refer and provide collaborative treatment for alcohol and other substance abuse dependency issues.
