SAN JOSE, CA - The Sharks Foundation and SAP announced today the donation of $61,300 to Downtown College Prep's El Primero High School, which will fund its Digital Arts Program.
Brand new iMac computers, wireless keyboards, Nikon cameras, tablets and pens, and a laser printer were delivered to El Primero courtesy of the Sharks Foundation and SAP, which focused its funds on education during the month of February. Representatives from the Sharks Foundation and SAP joined students, as they participated in various Digital Arts Program activities.

Unable to provide art or design classes at the beginning of the 2016-17 school year, Downtown College Prep sought out funding to pilot an innovative program, which would give students the opportunity to develop their digital artistic technical skills and design, and storytelling skills - both necessary for effective communication across all subject areas.
"We are grateful to the Sharks and SAP for the investment in our students' creative and college futures and for bringing them closer to the opportunity and innovation that defines our region," said Jennifer Andaluz, Co-Founder and Executive Director, DCP.
Through the $61,300 donation, the program will annually serve 650 students in 9th-12th grade who reside in the eastside and downtown neighborhoods of San Jose. Many of the students Downtown College Prep targets are typically first-generation students from lower-income families, however as a public charter DCP is open to all students.
"We are thrilled to partner with SAP to provide these valuable educational tools to the students of Downtown College Prep," said Heather Hooper, Sharks Foundation Manager. "Their Digital Arts Program will allow students to participate in an engaging learning environment we hope encourages their curiosity and excitement for technology and innovation."
As part of Sharks Sports & Entertainment's large partnership deal with SAP, the Sharks Foundation works alongside SAP's community engagement team to craft impactful programming and projects to make a positive difference in the lives of youth and families in the Bay Area.
"As a Red Dot Design Award winner and member of the local community, SAP is thrilled to partner with the Sharks Foundation on this educational opportunity to ensure that future generations are properly equipped with the necessary tools to engage with art and design," said Sam Yen, SAP Chief Design Officer, Managing Director Silicon Valley.
In total, the Sharks Foundation expects to fund multiple educational programs totaling an estimated $197,000 during February and early March, which will impact approximately 4,200 individuals.
