by San Jose Sharks Staff / San Jose Sharks
SAN JOSE, California – The San Jose Sharks are teaming up with Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria on Tues., Nov. 8 to benefit local community organizations that enhance the lives of local youth.

Amici’s will donate 100% of the sales from their downtown San Jose and Cupertino locations from 3 p.m. – 10 p.m. to the Sharks Foundation, which awards grants to local community organizations that are dedicated to meeting the educational, social and cultural needs of our community, with a focus on health, education and character development for Santa Clara County Youth.

Sharks fans and pizza fans are encouraged to support Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria throughout the day. In addition, several Sharks players and team personalities will be on site at each location to interact and sign autographs for the general public between the hours of 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

The two Amici’s locations taking part in this fundraiser are:

Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria – San Jose
225 W. Santa Clara St.
San Jose, CA 95113

Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria – Cupertino
10310 S. De Anza Blvd.
Cupertino, CA 95014

Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria's 12 Bay Area locations each offer authentic, thin-crust New York style pizzas, along with homemade pastas and crisp fresh salads. The pizzas are cooked directly on the floor of traditional brick ovens next to an open flame, in the way tradition-minded Italians have been baking them for centuries.

In 1987 two East Coast transplants, Peter Cooperstein from Boston, and Mike Forter from New York decided to do something about their mutual longing for the style of pizza they'd grown up with, and opened the first Amici's East Coast Pizzeria in downtown San Mateo. To their delight it became a success - not only with their fellow transplants, but with everyone.

With a focus on authenticity, friendly service, customer satisfaction, and with carefully measured growth, Amici's has become the Bay Area's standard for high-quality, freshly made pizzas, pastas, and salads enjoyed by thousands in their homes, businesses, and in Amici's stylish restaurants.

The Sharks Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the lives of youth and families in our community with an emphasis in the areas of Education, Health and Safety, and Character Development. The Sharks Foundation supplies emergency aid when appropriate, executes unique and relevant programming, supports the advancement of youth hockey and provides financial support and resources to organizations that enrich the lives of those in need. Although the San Jose Sharks and the Sharks Foundation support a variety of community programs on various levels, we feel that the key to the long-term well-being of our community is our youth.

The San Jose Sharks are as deeply involved with the neighborhood we live in as we are with the game that we play. As role models, we feel responsible to give back to the community that so strongly supports us. To this end, the Sharks Foundation was created in 1994 in an effort to increase our organizational impact on Santa Clara County. With the help of Sharks players, coaches and staff, the Sharks Foundation invests in the community with the hope of enhancing the lives of our youth. It quickly evolved and expanded beyond its original charter and has since donated over $5.2 million to more than 109 local beneficiaries. During the 2010-11 season, its contribution to local youth programs and organizations totaled $272,121 through monetary grants. In addition to the original grant program, the Sharks Foundation manages educational programs, hosts major fundraisers, executes pledge programs and implements community outreach events.
