Sharks Could Gain A Player And Lose One

by San Jose Sharks Staff / San Jose Sharks
For Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. contest with St. Louis, Sharks Head Coach Todd McLellan may have an extra hand to help out. Or maybe 20 extra hands.

The Sharks fathers’ trip is this weekend as the club heads to Phoenix and most of dads are already in town for Saturday’s game.

“I know in my relationship with my dad, I turned to him first when things were going good,” McLellan recalled.

When things weren’t going well, McLellan said he went to the same well for advice.

“They don’t say ‘Wise old man’ for nothing,” McLellan said.

Maybe some extra parental advice will be just what the doctor ordered for the Sharks as they aim to terminate their losing streak.

+1, -1
The Sharks could be without Ryane Clowe against St. Louis.

“No, he went out and tried to skate, but it (did not go well), so assuming (he wouldn’t play) would be pretty good,” McLellan said.

On the other hand, San Jose may see the return of Logan Couture who took in his second consecutive practice.

“I hope so. I’m going to come to the rink to play and see if I’m in the lineup,” Couture said.

FIRST OFF
Antti Niemi was the first goaltender off the ice, making him the likely starter for the contest.

SHARKS ICE
The Sharks held their morning skate at Sharks Ice at San Jose due to the Globetrotters game at HP Pavilion. Maybe the change in plans will help out.

“Actually we felt pretty good out there,” Joe Pavelski said. “It felt like a game day. It’s a good feeling and I think the guys are ready.”

REUNION
Playing the Blues is always fun for Jamal Mayers as he gets to catch up with the Blues broadcasters and other old friends.

“I was there 12 years, 10 years straight,” Mayers said. “Any time you are with people for 10 years, it’s fun to get together. There were a lot of good people there and I made a lot of good friends.”

He also recalls the big playoff rivalry with San Jose.

“Any time you meet a team in the playoffs, it creates disdain and a rivalry,” Mayers said. “We won the Presidents’ Trophy and lost in seven games on a fluky goal. Then we won the next series.”
