Sharks Bay Area All-Star Scholarship Team Winner To Be Recognized July 7
/ San Jose Sharks
San Jose Sharks Bay Area All-Star Scholarship Team (B.A.A.S.S.T.) winner Christina Fukumoto will be honored prior to the Oakland Athletics vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim game tomorrow night, July 7. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
Fukumoto was selected along with five other Bay Area students by each of the six Bay Area sports franchises based on their elevated academic performance, work ethic and leadership qualities both on and off the field.
Each recipient received a $3,000 scholarship and has been recognized at team ceremonies throughout the year.
Fukumoto, who recently graduated from Homestead High School in Cupertino, was selected by the San Jose Sharks from a group of more than 35 high school seniors in Santa Clara County.
While attending Homestead, Fukumoto maintained a 4.0 grade point average while taking advanced placement and honors courses. She also played volleyball, basketball, softball and track all at the varsity level and contributed time outside the classroom to tutoring peers and coaching girls’ basketball at a local middle school.
Fukumoto will be studying environmental studies at a University of California this coming fall.
B.A.A.S.S.T. was established in 1996 in an effort to honor college-bound seniors from Bay Area public high schools. Each public high school within the Bay Area’s nine counties was provided with information on B.A.A.S.S.T. and encouraged to nominate four commendable students.
Students nominated for the award must have had a minimum 3.0 grade point average, demonstrated good work ethic and displayed leadership qualities both in the classroom and on the athletic field.
