'The Classic Rock Experience' Has Served as the Sharks Radio Home Since 2000
SAN JOSE, Calif. — The San Jose Sharks and 98.5 K-FOX (KUFX-FM) today jointly announced a multi-year extension to the partnership that has made the San Jose-based radio station the Sharks radio network flagship since the 2000-01 season.
The extension calls for 98.5 K-FOX to continue to broadcast live and in their entirety, all regular season and Stanley Cup playoff Sharks contests, as well as select preseason games.
In addition, a weekly Sharks segment featuring Sharks players, coaches and other personalities will air at 8:20 a.m. each Tuesday morning during Greg Kihn’s top-rated K-FOX morning show.
The “Radio Voice of the San Jose Sharks,” Dan Rusanowsky, will once again call all the play-by-play action and will host the popular “Sharks Warm-Up” pre-game show and the “Sharks Extra” post-game wrap-up. He will also appear weekday game afternoons at 4:20 on K-FOX’s afternoon drive program with “What’s on Tap.”
The venerable Rusanowsky, who returns for his 19th season as the Sharks radio play-by-play broadcaster in 2010-11, has called over 1,400 regular season Sharks games and has witnessed nearly every regular and post-season game in Sharks history.
Former Sharks center Jamie Baker provides color commentary on Sharks Radio Network broadcasts. Since 2005, Baker’s high-energy personality, enthusiasm and excellent knowledge of the NHL have greatly enhanced Sharks radio broadcasts and his dedication to grassroots marketing have helped expand the ever-growing youth hockey population in the Bay Area.
Based in San Jose, the 98.5 K-FOX broadcast signal services the entire Silicon Valley and the majority of the Bay Area, including San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, the Tri-Valley Area, and Santa Cruz. KUFX is owned by Aloha Station Trust LLC, which owns and operates radio stations throughout the United States.
“We are very excited to continue our long and excellent partnership with 98.5 K-FOX,” says Sharks Executive Vice President of Business Operations Malcolm Bordelon. “K-FOX provides us with a great signal and an exceptional marketing partner. Most importantly, their audience provides an outstanding fit with the demographics of our existing fan base and those most likely to become Sharks fans in the future.”
“With Sharks hockey, Greg Kihn in the morning, and the best classic rock anywhere, 98.5 K-FOX is a championship combination for Silicon Valley and the entire Bay Area,” said KUFX General Manager Justin Wittmayer. “We look forward to working together for many seasons to come.”
“We are pleased to continue our long-standing relationship with the San Jose Sharks,” added KUFX Program Director Tim Jeffreys. “Sharks hockey goes hand in hand with 98.5 K-FOX’s classic rock format, and our advertisers and listeners always look forward to each hockey season.”
